  • Comments Thread For: Photos: Colon Badly Injured During DQ Loss To Williams

As BoxingScene.com reported late Saturday night, promising welterweight prospect Prichard Colon has undergone surgery for a bleed on the brain following his loss to Terrel Williams earlier that day in a Premier Boxing Champions televised co-feature on NBC

The 23-year-old Puerto Rican, who was fighting on the undercard of Lamont Peterson's majority decision victory over Felix Diaz Jr, was dropped twice by Williams and lost via a ninth-round disqualification.

This is really bad, more and more fighters severely injured after their fights. Most states are already crying for boxing to be banned

Hope the kid pulls through and makes it to where he doesn't need to come back to the ring to make a living.

This is tough as hell right now for me. I was watching the fight and hearing the news now has me feeling so bad for the dude. I was rooting for Colon. That last round not being fought was probably the best thing that could have happened. Ppl here was saying the team and Colon did the glove debacle on purpose to get out of the fight. Smh

Sad for him and his family. I got the same thing here, ppl thought he was faking and stalling. I didn't see him hurt that bad either, I'm not going to lie.

Its always horrible to see these sort of things happen from a boxing match, just shows how brutal the sport is and how much it takes for people to dedicate their lives to it, I hope he recovers well with no lasting damage, getting back in the ring isn't important right now, getting back to good health is.

I wish there was a way to know for certain if the rabbit punches are what caused his brain bleed or not. I mean, watching the fight, looking at the pictures, it's hard not to come to that conclusion. But was he dehydrated? Was he involved in fierce sparring leading up to the fight? Questions we will likely never know.

I think for now refs need to take rabbit punching MUCH MORE SERIOUS! Nothing seems to ever happen, usually just warning and that's it. Refs need to do a better job enforcing boxing rules.

Yeah, I had no idea he was that hurt. The blow to the back of the head was solid as **** though. Williams did that on purpose and the man cried after like he didn't do anhyhting wrong. Smh and the ppl hear talking ****, I'm sure they are re evaluating themselves as individuals today. Not just as boxing fans.

There is a soft spot behind the head where a small amount of force can cause a lot of damage; this is exactly why rabbit punching and hit behind the head is illegal period!! I thought the ref did a terrible officiating, it was the same red that officiated Peterson/Khan. I hope he pulls through, very sad.

Yes it is extremely sad but it is far fetched to say most states are crying for boxing to be banned. You know how many lives boxing has saved? Especially in third world countries? Also the amount of revenue that boxing generates is ridiculous, boxing isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Fighters know the consequences and these are just some of the unintended consequences that happen. Will football and rugby be banned because of number of concussions that happen...,.no. Boxing is here to stay just like every other combat and contact sport.
