Comments Thread For: Roman Gonzalez Stamps P4P Status, Stops Viloria

Madison Square Garden, New York City - The man many regard as the best pound-for-pound fighter in boxing, WBC flyweight champion Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez (44-0, 38KOs) received his biggest victory to date with a ninth round stoppage of former champion Brian Viloria (36-5, 22KOs).

Viloria came out throwing shots as he pressed, shooting his jab and keeping Gonzalez at bay. In the final minute Viloria landed a few hard shots before Gonzalez landed a big uppercut of his own.

Bad stoppage. I think he could of at least finished all 12 rounds.

        what a twist

I thought Viloria was about to drop Gonzalez with that body shot. Still great chin on Viloria.

Early stoppage but Viloria had no answer for Chocolatito's assault. He fought a near perfect fight.

I wish the ref would have let Viloria make it out of the round, but you can't disagree with the stoppage. I felt it was going to get interesting after that body shot. Amazing that the only person who seemed to care about it was Roy Jones Jr.

I don't think it should of been stopped. But there was no doubt Gonzalez was going to win but just 30 seconds earlier really hurt him with a body shot. He deserved a shot to go the distance.

                  Premature stoppage.

Anyway I am becoming a big fan of Roman, now, but he's still not even top 10 p4p on my list, and beating a game Viloria sure doesn't "stamp" anything for me other than another win.

Gonzales is extremely overrated. Was not impressed at all.
