After watching one of the most incredible fights in boxing history last May, I was eagerly anticipating the rematch. It had all the elements that built for a must see rematch. There were many factors, including the controversy with Corrales' mouthpiece. The rematch was scheduled later that year.
When it finally occurred, I was left with a sour taste in my mouth. First, Castillo didn't make weight for the fight, weighing in at 138 lbs. That made the fight a special non-title attraction, instead of being for the Ring Magazine 135 Title. Then came the worst element of them all, that the man who failed to make the weight had won by a dominating knockout in the 4th Round.
While this will be an exciting fight, is it still as big an attraction as it was supposed to be? Will the fact that it is on regular Showtime, not PPV, help the number of viewers enough? And will this fight make the Castillo-Corrales trilogy one for the greats?
