Comments Thread For: Golovkin: I'm Not Pound For Pound No. 1, Spot is 'Vacant'

NEW YORK – Gennady Golovkin doesn’t think he or any other boxer has earned the top spot on pound-for-pound lists now that Floyd Mayweather Jr. has retired.

When asked if he should be considered the best boxer in the world, Golovkin said, “No, I don’t feel now. No. Why? Because there are a lot of great champions. New stars. New prospects. And great champions. Right now, first place is vacant. Maybe in the future. This is my first step for first place, I hope, in the future. I don’t feel now [that I am No. 1].” [Click Here To Read More]

Its all opinions. Floyd being no1 was opinion of many. If he had of beat GGG he definitely would have been p4p1. If GGG beat Floyd at 160 it wouldn't make him no1 though. He just wanted to beat the so called no1 p4p.
Just like haggler wanted to beat Duran

I respect that position and somewhat agree. The leading candidates are Chocolatito, Ward, GGG, Kovalev, Wlad with Crawford, Lomachenko and Rigo on the outside looking in. Whoever dares to be great will separate themselves and become the clear number 1.

He had a chance to snatch it but walked.

GGG's resume pales in comparison to the others in consideration. There is no way he could be #1.

p4p, maybe behind the word "champ", is the most universal boxing term there is...matter of fact it is one of the most univeral terms in sports..
wat did lebron say about iverson "p4p he is the best ever"

and when the casual stops being casual he sees the word champ is tossed around loosely in boxing and he respect P4P more...u see bc danny jacobs swears he's a champ...u see bc danny garcia can still be a champ after a robbery, but the world now knows he cant be p4p..or at least he cant be high on the list...right??

so imo its one of the best terms we have in boxing and that is why it is highly regarded
