The Case for Khan vs. Other Welterweights

I wanted to post this in response to the thread that diminished Khan's win over Alexander due to his loss to Martinez last night. If were diminishing wins lets include Thurman for beating Sotto Karass, Robert Guerrero and Luis Collazo. Karass had already been knocked out by Rosado and Maidana. Guerrero went through war with Kamegai and got knocked down by Martinez. Martinez in fact won the fight against Guerrero but not given the nod. Was Alexander shot or Martinez just that good? I'm reasonable so I'll say a combination of the two. Khan dominated Collazo. The almighty Thurman didn't even manage to knock down Collazo once and was running from that body shot. Has Khan ever been hurt by a body shot? Yes I'm aware he's been knocked down multiple times by a flush punches to his chin. Have you ever seen Thurman take the same shots Khan has?

So who was Keith Thurman's greatest win then? I'll say Diego Chaves, how's his career played out? I still expect him to give Brook a good fight next week. One guy on Thurmans resume of note. How about Shawn Porter? A draw with Julio Diaz who arguably won the fight and was not given the nod. It was right after his fight Porter that Khan took the Diaz fight, despite being knocked down by a flush punch and a combination of bad footing scrapped out the win. Re-watch the shots that Khan took in rounds 10 & 11 against Diaz. How come those didn't knock Khan down? Porter vs Alexander was a close fight but Porter edged it properly applying pressure to Alexander. Good win. Porter vs Malignaggi the same guy that Khan TKO'd out 4 years ago? Or a washed up shell of his former self? Malignaggi was knocked down by Pablo Ceaser Cano. Where's he at nowadays? Kell Brook vs Porter, Porter came in swinging wildly, throwing his body at Brook from a distance. Brook being smart taking a step back and countering him all night. However let's not forget the amount of excessive holding the started from Round 1. Still close fight but good win for Brook. Broner vs Porter at 144. Broner being his clown self didn't the fight seriously. But regardless of that Broner was able to knocked down Shawn Porter. Khabib didn't even go down vs. Broner.

So who is Porters greatest win? Devon Alexander? Wait a minute. How about the guy that knocked Khan out? Danny Garcia has some good wins right? Close fight with Morales. Knock out of Khan, who came in over aggressively and left himself open. Knock out of Morales, with the same shot Khan got up from left Morales on the canvas. Close fight with Judah who was ripping Garcia with head shots. The same Judah that Khan knocked out. Good win over Matthysee who recently quit vs Postol. Disputed decision over Herrera, knock out of Ligthing Rod, disputed decision over Peterson, and TKO victory of Malignaggi(this guy again?).

Hmm so who was Garcia's best win? Khan (no way that guy is a joke, right?) or Matthysee who quit vs Postol (the guy Garcia ducked). Maybe we can find someone on Kell Brooks resume. Shawn Porter the guy that drew with Julio Diaz. Or Chaves the guy who was knocked out vs Thurman, DQ'd vs Rios and a disputed draw vs Timothy Bradley, after next week. Anyone else?

Well Khan was knocked out vs Prescott and Garcia. And rightfully so for leaving himself open. Peterson did some good things vs Khan, like take testosterone. Let's see near shut out win over Kotelnik, the guy who beat Maidana and arguably Alexander. Near shut out win over Alexander and Collazo, both 50-50 fights going in. KO of Zab Judah. Close decisions over Algeri, Diaz and Maidana. The same Algeri that beat Ruslan at 140 or the same Algeri that was knocked down six times(slips being counted) not knocked out vs Pacqiuao at 144? Or Algeri at 147 who started training with John David Jackson, who trains Kovalev? Maidana who had just knocked out Ortiz and 2 others after dropping the decision to Kotelnik.

So who's Khans greatest win? I think the close fight with Maidana. But wait a minute didn't Maidana get shut out vs Alexander. And wasn't Alexander, Porters greatest win and didn't Porter draw with Diaz, who Khan struggled with. What's going on here?

So Khan is probably the worst welterweight out there right? Brook, Garcia, Porter, and Thurman have legendary resumes right?

Brook, Garcia, Thurman and Porter do indeed have better resumes than Khan. Garcia never lost a fight officially and he knocked Khan out so by all logic his resume is better than Khan's resume. Porter only lost once and that was a very close loss to the excellent champion Brook .That makes Porter's resume superior to Khan's resume. Brook and Thurman are welterweight champions who have never lost so their resume must be rated above Khan's resume. None of these boxers have ever been knocked out while Khan has suffered two crushing knock out defeats that he has yet to avenge.
