Comments Thread For: Rosado on Kirkland: He Asked For 'Double' The Purse!

At this time last week it looked like a junior middlweight crossroads bout between Gabe Rosado and James Kirkland was going to take place at the Forum in Inglewood, California on December 19th, as part of an HBO 'Boxing After Dark' telecast.

But alas, the flighty Kirkland changed his mind abruptly.

You sign a contract then go and ask for double the money? And remember this is not the first time Kirkland has signed a contract/agreed to a fight then pulled out. The dude is not all there mentally. Chance at headlining HBO in a winnable fight after you just got knocked out and you turn that down? Just keeps sabotaging his own career. All the fighting with his own promoters, managers, trainers basically all his long layoffs outside the ring are self inflicted. Just a waste of talent. When his career is over and he's dead broke he is going to be kicking himself for all the fights he turned down and opportunities he wasted.

I think the big question is why is hbo paying for this as a main event. When they don't have any money got Sadam Ali

That' his plan, make a fight, ask for double, then pull if he doesn't get double. Accept a fight when he's broke...rinse and repeat

This is the second time this match-up falls through, but it makes all the sense in the world imo. If what Rosado says is true, Kirkland is ******ed for giving up an HBO main-event slot. Kirkland needs this as much as Rosado does, so it's a damn shame that it's fallen through.

Either Kirkland himself is really dumb, or someone is whispering this dumb sh.t in his ear. SMH, get your sh.t together man

This reminds me of what he did in 2012 where he backed out the Canelo fight after he signed and the fight was announced days later reports come out he was asking for more money. Then when he didn't get it said he was still injured. But a few weeks earlier he said he was 100% healthy and was begging for the Canelo fight after Paul Williams injured himself in the motorcycle crash and they needed a replacement. He turned that fight down holding out for more money and didn't end up fighting again for a year and half and when he finally did it was for much less money then he was offered in 2012.
