Comments Thread For: Canelo Hungers To Boost Profile By Beating Cotto

Former junior middleweight world champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (45-1-1, 32KOs) of Guadalajara, Mexico is training very hard in San Diego, California, along with his trainers Chepo and Eddie Reynoso.

Canelo will challenge WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4) of Puerto Rico on the 21st of November at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Canelo has prepared in San Diego for his recent fights with Alfredo Angulo, Erislandy Lara and James Kirkland. He enjoys the area, the quiet and the additional training options.

Look, Cotto hasn't proven Jack at MW

And Canelo beating him isn't that big of a win. Not in terms of quality of fighter. Cotto is fighting a guy with 15 pound advantage. Cotto could beat PAC or Mayweather.

The win will be big for Canelo's Mexican fan base. But it's not that impressive.

Cotto has a name, but PAC and Mayweather beat Cotto.

Canelo is bigger than both, he should win. A win against the real MW champ would be major though. However, not if he attempts to wait five years.

Goldenboy has really been deceptive about what it's doing.

However, if Cotto best Canelo, then it really is an indictment on Canelo. Because I don't know if Cotto beats very many of the other top MW.

I think he loses against Quillin, Lemieux, Eubanks, and of course GGG.

It seems like the previous comments don't aligned with Cotto's record. Cotto has captured titles in four different divisions on which overrated Canelo will never accomplish anything close. Cotto has fought the cream of boxing gained better respect from stars like Mayweather and PAC where Canelo came up short.

So you are saying Cotto hasn't prove jack in MW division therefore he was given the MW title. What a bunch of assumtions? The fact is Cotto beat Martinez, captured the tittle and defended the tittle against Geale. Reality speaks for itself.

Never said Cotto doesn't have a good resume. He had a great career, but as MW, he isn't proving Jack.

He is fighting Canelo 1 pound above Jr.MW for gods sake.

Actually I said Cotto had list to Mayweather and PAC, how the heck is he supposed to beat a guy who rehydrated to 175.

A win against Canelo would be good, but hardly proves him a great MW.

Cotto beat him at a catch weight, and Martinez was hardly the best MW. He had no legs under him and was in bad shape.

Then Cotto beat Geale, a Guy GGG dominated.

Cotto has since ducked his mandatory, who is the best MW.

Cotto beat one decent MW, but dragged him down in weight.

Cotto has never fought at 160, which Is true MW. Although 155 is tech, it's a lame one.

Catch weights should be reserved for guys fighting guys in different division. Although Cotto is small, he is MW champ.

Unless he fights GGG at 160, no he is basically fight at Jr.MW.

So yes, Cotto current MW resume is a fraud.

Cotto is going to win this but there's no doubt Canelo will put up a good fight.

Now Martinez wasn't the best MW???, how come GGG never tried to fight Martinez??? Cotto took the risk and gain a lot by doing it.

I think you're putting too much emphasis on size and not enough on skill. If it were based on size than Cotto should have lost his last 3 bouts as well as a majority of others that he gives up size advantages. Rodriguez, Sergio, and Geale average: 5'11height, 72 in reach/ Cotto 5'7 height, 67 in reach. Size can be an overrated way to measure a fight.

Theres no need to discredit a potential win for either fighter. This is a very good fight between 2 top fighters, people should enjoy it for what its worth since boxing doesn't always make the best fights possible.

Eubanks? A guy with 20 bouts who isn't even a year removed from losing to Billy Joe Saunders...c'mon man! Quillin? Sure, I'd favor Kid Chocolate...2 years ago. This version of Kid Chocolate who wouldn't even defend his title, couldn't make weight, got his a$$ handed to him by Andy Lee, and is coming off an impressive win versus a stripper...c'mon man! Lemieux? Okay debatable because of Lemmy's physical gifts but he got his hands on his first title and people want to anoint him cream of the crop. Well, beating N'Dam is a start but not enough to forget Rubio or Alcine just yet. Lemmy has more to prove. GGG? It truly depends on how Cotto looks vs. Canelo and GGG looks vs. Lemmy. As of right now, GGG gets in Cotto's a$$.
