Well, middleweight has Cotto, Canelo, GGG and a few decent second tier hacks. Heavyweight has Wladimir Klitschko, who despite being the most ridiculously cheating, hacky hack of a heavyweight champion in history, is the only good fighter there. Everyone else sucks to a huge degree.

Middleweight is alright. It has star power with canelo, GGG, and cotto. Lemieux is exciting. Andy Lee can punch. Murray was very good but it looks like he's moved up to 168 and is there to stay. That Ukrainian kid looks for real. Some of the other guys are tough. Quillin and Jacobs are kind of on an island for being with Al, but they show no willingness to want to fight the beast of the division so that makes them look really lame.

So overall, not the best division, but not the worst either.

With GGG, Canelo and Cotto it became recently a good division, especially in comparison to other divisions.

For example, after Froch retirement and years of Ward's inactivity 168 became pure horse ****. Abraham ranked #2 and there is no impressive fighter here, all are ****ing mediocre, with mediocre skills (at best) and power.

For me featherweight, super lightweight, welterweight, mw and lhw are best divisions right now. Cruiserweight too, but since the cw fights are rarely televised, americans cant really rate this division.

i'd say that it's slightly stronger than super middleweight, and that it has a lot of prospects who could make it very interesting in a few years, but yeah it's certainly not one of the stronger divisions right now

It is a pretty good division. Not great, not bad. Take GGG out of the mix and it is a highly competitive division. There are a bunch of great potential fights, and one of only a couple divisions where a champion is actively seeking to unify all the belts. Quillen, Lee, Cotto, Canelo, GGG, Lemeiux, and Jacobs are all great mix a match potential fights. You can also throw Eubank Jr. and Korobov as guys kinda on the outside edge.

I don't think Middleweight is completely garbage. Cotto, Canelo, Lemieux, GGG are all great fighters and lucky for us they're all fighting each other

                    Simple rule of thumb:

Look at the sport's top 100 fighters, and then see how many of those names are middleweights.

Taking BoxRec's top 100, for example, 8 fighters are middleweights, while 11 fighters are heavyweights, compared to 13 fighters at welterweight.

                    [9 at 154, 5 at 135, 11 at 175, 6 at 168, 1 at 118, 2 at super flyweight, 9 at 140, 5 at 130, 6 at cruiserweight, 7 at 126]

Not a perfect marker, but it gives you a reference point.
