Comments Thread For: Golovkin To Continue Fighting 3 To 4 Times Per Year

If Gennady Golovkin should prove successful in unifying the middleweight titles with David Lemieux this weekend, and does solid pay-per-view numbers - don't expect him to fight just twice a year as many other marquee fighters do nowadays.

Golovkin has made it clear to his handlers that he wants to stay as active as possible. But the reality is that once you hit a certain level - such as being involved in pay-per-view events - and the stakes get higher - you fight less. Since the beginning of 2013, 'GGG' has fought nine times.

Yes, and that's why he has an ever growing fan base. You don't have to wait forever to see the guy fight like Andre Ward or Manny Pacquaio or Floyd Mayweather

Thats a pretty dumb comparison man..Manny and Mayweather fought often before hitting the big stage...GGG is not even close to that level

and in 2007 he fought 4 times 2008 Ward fought 3 times and in 2009 he fought 4 times..we all know why he has been inactive

Not gonna go there, but realistically he has to fight 3-4 times a year.

Golovkin is no spring chicken, he will want to take advantage of any potential PPV fights on the horizon..... and with no marquee opponents at 160 he will need to go for defences if he wants to leave a mark on the sport.

                Good news for us.

Once Mayweather grabbed a the lightweight title he was fighting twice a year. It is a valid comparison. Once Mayweather become the marquee fighter he resigned himself to fight once or twice a year. That was the norm for many years. Holyfield did that, Lewis, Tyson (he fought even less) and others.

Golovkin is bucking the trend by staying active. Fans should be embracing that.
