Liam Smith (21-0-1, 11KOs) netted the WBO light-middleweight title on Saturday night courtesy of a seventh-round KO win over John Thompson on a Frank Warren-promoted bill at the Manchester Arena.
Now that the dust has settled, the 27-year-old has declared a desire to fight in the U.S. at some point as well as stating that he is looking forward to defending his title here in the U.K.
Smith told the Liverpool Echo that he is still coming to terms with the fact that he holds a world title; he is the first of the four fighting Smith brothers to win world honours and is relishing the acclaim that is coming his way.
“I don't really care where I defend my title but I have fulfilled one dream and now another dream is to win a world title in America,” stated Smith. “I would love to defend it back home too; I'm defending a world title wherever and that's just amazing.
