Was Mayweather scared to lose to Amir Khan, when he chose to fight Maidana instead? In a sense, maybe , Mayweather saw fighting Khan as a much harder task than Maidana, and needed to keep his 0, for the crucial Pacquiao fight, which both parties had been discussing since his 6 fight deal with Showtime began.

Does Mayweather choosing Berto over Khan, proof that Mayweather is scared of Khan? No. Mayweather is not scared of Khan, in fact I wouldn't even say that he is afraid of GGG. However, there is no single plausible reason that Team Mayweather and his team, chose Berto over Khan? No Mayweather saw Amir Khan as the most riskiest fight out there for him, which one can interpret as being afraid to lose.

Mayweather makes more money fighting Berto for $35 Million, and then making $150 Million + in his 50th fight. Total $ after 2 fights = $ 185 Million Dollars

Mayweather makes $70 Million fighting Khan, potentially losing, then having to rematch Khan. Lets say he would have to take a pay cut in the rematch, and makes $45 Million Dollars in Khan 2 and wins. = $ 115 Million Dollars after 2 fights, and a loss on his resume.
