Why is Andre Ward permitted to keep his WBA title without defending it?

Andre Ward has not had a fight to defend his WBA "Super" super middleweight belt in about two years.

Ward has not REALLY defended his WBA super middleweight title since he fought a badly weight-drained Chad Dawson over THREE years ago.

The fight with Rodriguez two years ago wasn't really for the super middleweight title, because Rodriguez was not able to make 168 (he was also weight-drained for the fight, trying to lose weight the last few days before).

But we'll say two years instead of three. Why does Andre Ward have the privilege of retaining a "super" world title without defending it?

Super champions are obligated to defend every 18 months

The last 'justification' for a extension was that the mandatory (Froch) pulled out of a mandated fight

However, we know the WBA is corrupt. They want a slice of Wards next paycheck, whilst keeping both an interim and regular champion on the side

Because he makes large purses and sanctioning bodies generate revenue based on percentage of purse.

        That's probably true.

But should the WBA make up their rules as they go along, to maximize their revenue?

Or should the same rules apply to all fighters?

The WBA is the worst organization in boxing bro. They have like 3 champions per division. What rules do they even have?

This. He makes a lot of money and they want some of it and they also don't want to be mean to him so he might fight for another for another of their titles in the future.

Not really sure if injuries or legal issues have given him exemptions -- its normal to be given courtesy for such issues around the sanctioning bodies.

Maybe the WBA officials believe Ward is the "Son of God" and is therefore above the rules?

He seems to me to be the spawn of some evil entity.

I'm neither here nor there on Ward and try to judge it rationally, but the underlying fact here is the issue is not with Ward it is with the governing bodies, the WBC granting exemptions to every man and his dog as long as they generate a higher purse than the next guy. Lets not complicate or over think things, Ward is not the only one, when GGG is a ppv entity or more importantly if he ever is an established fight to fight ppv performer he will be shown the same leniency Ward has been shown.

Ward now being with ROC and huge blockbuster purse bids being thrown around by those guys, you think the WBA be keen to strip his ass ? Everyone one of those orgs are as bent as each other, about the only respectable or at least semi respectable one is the IBF, they seem to follow their rules pretty closely but I know their have been exceptions like Froch being allowed to face Kessler for example.
