Comments Thread For: George Groves on Froch, Seeing a Sports Psychologist

London’s George Groves (21-3, 16 KOs) has told The Daily Mail that he struggled to come to terms with his two back-to-back losses to Carl Froch and briefly hooked up with a sports psychologist in the aftermath of his second defeat to “The Cobra”.

Groves ran Froch close in November 2013, but he was stopped in the ninth round by referee Howard Foster. The intervention was seen as premature by many fans, so the two fighters met again at Wembley the following May only for Froch to draw an emphatic line under their rivalry with a stunning eighth-round KO win.

I much as I like George Groves, I fear he simply isn't an elite level boxer. Do you think he'll ever reach the top?

Groves has his issues, but I think Paddy is a terrible trainer. Groves literally regressed with each fight under him. He also gave awful advice in the corner. Not to use the right hand in the 2nd Froch fight which was landing really ****ing easy. Then telling him he was winning in the Badou fight when he had been knocked down and in his opponents back yard.

Also made him more of an upright volume fighter (when he has no engine), instead of the careful, seated, calculated potshotter that Booth crafted him into.

Good analysis Stinky Breath. He's explained what his issue is with Paddy F. What was the problem with Booth?

It probably is a mental issue now - I mean, 3 world title fights and you lose them all - that has to be demoralising, unless you just choose to ignore all of it. Trouble is those 3 losses will always be there in the back of his head - only way to get rid of those feelings is build his record and confidence back up .

Wasn't he mocking Froch for seeing a psychologist before their rematch? Smh

I don't see an issue trainer-wise with Booth, he seemed to be a great trainer for his style. Unfortunately there was some personal stuff between them, so it didn't work out. Someone on this forum said before that everyone that's worked with Groves said he had an attitude problem.

Though would've been good to see if he'd have done any better still under his tutelage.

He did. pretty cringey for him, but at least he's not being stubborn about it, which is... something.. i guess?

i dont particularly like groves cos he has mouthed off a bit too much imo, but at least he has the balls to assess his situation and face it head on. he'll be back no doubt, he's a decent fighter and who knows he may improve in the future. fighting froch and getting ko'd doesnt make you bad. he put him down at least, not many can do that.
