Comments Thread For: Orozco Looks Ahead, Mauricio Herrera in His Future?

Coming off his victory over Humberto Soto on Saturday night as the co-feature on HBO's 'Boxing After Dark' from the StubHub Center in Carson, Antonio Orozco and his team are now looking ahead to the future.

By outboxing the veteran over ten rounds, he improved his mark to 23-0 (15 KO's) and has stamped himself as a junior welterweight contender.

    Orozco v Herrera sounds good

I thought Soto was going to edge that fight. I was impressed with the gameplan Orozco had, I didn't expect him to fight like he did. He did not engage with Soto all that much on the inside which was where he would have had issues IMO, and did early on. Soto's uppercut, one of the best of recent yrs, was neutralized..barely saw that punch. He looked well prepared to avoid that shot. When Soto can't land or get off with that punch, the combos don't fly. He took Soto's offense away and moved well and kept consistent from the 4th on. It was competitive, but I was sitting there in the 8th-9th round like ****... this guy feels like the ring general now. Maybe he moved too much for your liking in a young guy vs an old vet bout but I thought the consistency came together in the last 3 rds. The power on his jab was taking a toll at that point, as well as the body shots which Soto was really feeling down the stretch. soto looked like he was looking to buy time.

he was right, much more well prepared than Frankie Gomez was for Soto. Now he will reap the benefit

Herrera outboxes him and Benavidez torches him.

From ancient Stevie Forbes to Soto to Herrera. i mean I would rather see him vs other fresh fighters of course, but this fight would also be some experience. I wasn't really impressed with him until Saturday. He won't get a lot of credit from the Soto fight because the scorecards were garbage and Soto was injured earlier this year IIRC (in addition to having previous fights fall out). Might have to take another fight like that to convince some more people - people know Herrera's track record at least
