Comments Thread For: Lucas Matthysse-Viktor Postol: Pre-Fight Report Card

By Cliff Rold - Anytime he steps in the ring, Argentina’s Lucas Matthysse is just one of those guys to clear the calendar for. He makes good fights. He makes good highlights.

More often than not, he makes guys go to sleep.

It isn’t always the case, especially against the better caliber of foes. Many thought he did enough to defeat Devon Alexander and Zab Judah; both those fights went the route. He came up short against Danny Garcia. He battled through punishing late surges from Ruslan Provodnikov earlier this year to hold for a points win.

Where does Viktor Postol fall on the quality scale? So far, he looks good but with career best wins over Hank Lundy and Selcuk Aydin, the jury is still out. This is the proving ground for the Ukrainian.

Both men are widely seen as among the ten best Jr. Welterweights in the game, with Matthysse as the leading contender to fill the historical throne left vacant by Danny Garcia. The winner will exit with the currently vacant WBC belt at 140 lbs. HBO appears to have a fine main event Saturday night (10:15 EST). [Click Here To Read More]

Mathysse is 0-3 in Major title fights, not 0-1.
    His fight
with Alexander was for the IBF titlte, his fight with Judah was for the vacabt IBF title and the fight with García that was for the WBC, WBA and IBF titles.

No.... Alexander vs Lucas was a 10 rounder so its impossible that it was a title fight.

As for Judah, that wasn't one either. Judah got the IBF title from Mabuza which was after fighting Matthysse.

      The author is absolutely correct.

        correct

you could argue that the peterson fight could've been for the IBF title, but he chose to stay Garcia's mando so they made it at 141

alexander was 10 rounds, so no, and like the other poster said, judah was not for the title either

and the garcia fight was for the WBA, WBC and RING titles, WBO was vacant and Peterson had the IBF

not a surprise a cotto fan is completely 100% misinformed

Good article crazy how Lucas has beaten 5 former champions and only had one title shot.

I thought Soto beat Molina before Matthysse? Nvm he beat before Broner did though.

On paper i see them almost evenly. Both have very orthodox styles and are solid fundamentally, power edge goes to Matthysse with the reach and height for Postal. Thats where im stumped, can Lucas get inside? Jab, feint or otherwise? If that reach is too much of a factor Lucas is gonna have to shoot the same time Postal does. Then u have Bob Arum..i gotta go with Postal on this one...if i had the extra dough id throw down on a controversial decision, GBP V TR? its too tempting to pass up
