  • Dissapointing year

Has anyone else found this year a bit dissapointing? It was set to be a great year but failed to live up to expectations. Some writers seem to disagree with me, however.

There have been disappointing fights, sub-par performances, gift title shots, and a whole lot of *****ing but not a lot of doing. Don't get me wrong, there have been some decent efforts, but nothing from the ones claiming to be the next p4p star.

Wilder received two voluntaries, Mayweather chose an easy opponent, Brook isn't doing anything at all, Khan kept whinging, Broner has been given a title shot, Pacquiao didn't man up and accept defeat, and the less said about Wards comeback the better.

A bit? understatement. Loads of quantity, precious little quality.

Still, chin up, the machine is fighting this weekend

Respectfully,do you watch the sport outside of the big names?

Too many posters judge the sport based solely on what is going on at the very top. You can't just look at the "1%" to judge the sport.

Been some really good fights this year, Huck lost, matts/provo, wilder/stivernne.

I think maybe you should check out some smaller cards and you will be pleased.

In general, I do prefer watching the smaller fights and I agree there have been the few good ones.

However, the "1%" are the ones who carry the reputation of the sport and they just haven't lived up to expectations. Part of that could be the standards set by fans are too high (I mean May-Pac was never going to live up to the hype, and too many people let their emotions get in the way of rational thinking), the other part could be down to cherry picking/aging or just laziness.

I'm interested in hearing other people's view of how the year went.

          Too many mismatches.

The best used to fight the best, nowadays the best often avoid the best.

I disagree. I've enjoyed a few fights this year:

            Wilder/Stiverne
            Thurman/Guerrero
            Garcia/Peterson
            Walters/Marriaga
            Dirrell/DeGale
            Burns/Figueroa
            Verdejo/Najera
            Bradley/Vargas
            Canelo/Kirkland
            Mayweather/Pacquiao
            Jack/Groves
            Matthysse/Provodnikov
            Kovalev/Pascal
            Pascal/Gonzalez
            Huck/Glowacki
            Estarda/Marquez
            Broner/Porter

I can go on all day. And to close the year we are getting GGG/Lemieux, Canelo/Cotto, Choco/Viloria, Bradley/Rios, Thurman/Porter, Matthysse/Postol, Broner/Khabib, Quillin/Jacobs, etc.

            This year has been solid.

This states it all. This site truly complains too much. Do not watch the fight on paper, watch it in the ring. The fights that were on Fox Sports 1 Tuesday were great. I love this sport. I can not understand how people complain about more boxing on tv. Wonder how they would feel if it was just on HBO & Shotime.

None of those are smaller cards.
