Many fighters could drain to take on smaller dudes, and those that do are cheapening the sport.
He constantly drains 20 pounds to fight in a weight division below where he should gets little respect for me. Most of the props Canelo gets is from what he is made out to be. He's had some decent fights, and looked bad in all of them.
Lara, a much smaller fighter, was able to at least make it a fight, if not a draw or even beat him. Canelo got the benefit of the doubt.
Kirkland was a joke.
Now Canelo is gonna fight at MW (where he should be), but it's not a MW he is fighting. He basically wants to get the MW belt without having to fight someone close to his size.
I'd be fine with that if he'd just keep his agreement to fight the real beast of the MW, but that isn't what his promoter seems to be laying the groundwork for.
All this talk about Canelo can still make 154 is what shows me the kid isn't that good. Many fighters can drain down 20 pounds, then put it back on and fights small dudes. GGG came in at 157 last fight.
Now if GGG did what Canelo is doing, he'd have the haters in an uproar.
Anyone Canelo fights at 154 is overmatched by his fight night size of 175.
He gets this belt, and then refuses to fight GGG, or vacates, it will prove all along he and Goldenboy are phonies who want to use politics in the same way Floyd has.
Same game.
Worse part is they are holding up the true MW champion in the process. He can't unify as long as the lineal champ keeps ducking this mandatory.
Canelo fans will say but he is only 25. Well he has 40+ professional fights and claims to be one of the best.
Then prove it, don't duck the mandatory.

But the opponent could do the same if he wanted to. It's not like Canelo and other fighters who drain themselves for weigh-in and then come much heavier for fight night, are the only ones allowed to do it.
Doing that crazy draining thing poses more disadvaantages than advantages. What good is it to come way heavier and (maybe) way stronger than your opponent, if you can't hit him because you are so slow and clumsy?
Talk about Canelo-Floyd, Manny-Margarito, Chavez-Martinez. The three Mexicans were easily defeated because his rival, although way less powerful, was way faster and they simply couldn't hit him, but they got hit a lot.
It is not illegal or unfair to do that, because it is open to everybody. Being heavier and more powerful makes you slower, less agile and less conditioned, and you run out of stamina much faster than your opponent, to boot. So IMO the trade-offs outweigh the so-called "advantage" of being all drained at the weigh-in to show up real heavy and "powerful" on fight night.Last edited by sterilizer; 10-02-2015, 01:56 AM.

Still looking slow. Not worried though. To me, Cotto is a lotslower thee days. Look at the Geale fight. Right before he finshes him off his attack is sooo slow. If he didn't have power you wouldn't care too much about him approaching you as his shots are a lot slower these days.
