Unbeaten records. Nearly everyone who amounted to anything in the sport lost at some point. And they were not just robbed. They lost and sometimes were even knocked out. It happens when you fight the best. The emphasis on unbeaten is way too high.
The boxer who has lost and come back from it has proven he could do so. Duran, Ali, Tyson, Louis, Leonard, Hearns, Toney, Jones, Chavez, Arguello all came back from losses and had many more memorable moments. That makes a better statement than just having an "0" in your loss column.
It's promotes fear of failure which is ridiculous. We all have bad days at work. We all lose. Losing is not to be feared but learned from. Better fighters are made from losses. Pacquiao was much better in my opinion after his loss to Morales. He definitely had great teachers in Barrera, Morales and Marquez on his way up. Had Duran rolled over Dejesus in their first fight, he would have never proven had great he improved in the second and third fights.
I also look at it like a lot of the guys who have been around a while and have their scars look at these new kids who have unbeaten records and think they know everything like little kids. They smile and shake their heads and think "Yeah, junior. Just you wait."
Losses are fine. Losses build character.
