  • Postol boxed Mathysse's ears off, he weathered the power shots (which were few and far in between), was shifting gears fluently, throwing combinations and keeping Matthysse guessing throughout the fight. I was expecting Postol to slow down a bit in the second half but he actually picked up the pace. The KO in the 10th was the cherry on top (no pun intended). Overall great win for Postol that should catapult him up the rankings.

I can see Matthysse retiring after a loss like this, he was truly beaten. It sucks that he will most likely never win a full world title, and it sucks even more when you consider a clown like Broner just beat another B-class no hoper to claim his fourth, well that's the politics of boxing for you.

    • From the shot I do think the orbital bone was broken. From what I understand It's kind of like when someone falls and does not scream "I think I broke my leg!" (Meaning they very likely have not) but rather when someone goes down and calmly announces "My leg IS broken get help" (and it very very likely is)

Something kinda primal, you just know your bodies compromised and it's over. So I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, still always was maybe a bit overrated,

      • After the headbutt Lucas had a mark on his left cheek and the tide of the fight changed. The KO punch was in the exact same place as the heatbutt too.

          Idk about that now
It was similar in tactics - Matthysse held Ruslan on the inside to keep a brawl from breaking out, then boxed exclusively at range. That's exactly what Postol then did to Lucas. Postol's manager even admitted that was the gameplan.

          • Team Matthysse should've sparred Algieri. There were a couple shots where Lucas had body shot under Postol's notorious left jab. Some of us were talking about body shots pre fight. Lucas kept on lunging to the face and Victor would just block them. Very poor strategy from the Argentinians. This would've been Lucas' advantage. Also for control range jabbers move into the opposite direction of their jab an circle the ring this way.

                  No that was NSB.

Against Molina you saw how limited he was

Lucas really gassed around 7/8. Even without the KO I had Postol up

He swung hooks on the outside more often than he should of. I think he really wanted to change the pace by being able to start swarming off of a big punch.

The way Postol used his left hand was very smart. He rarely pulled the left to his face but kept it mid-distance to be able to "swat" Matthysse away any time he got close.

If there was a time Teddy Atlas' "bugs on the windshield" (or something on the windshield) analogy was true, it was this fight.
