From Pundit Arena:
British boxing legend Chris Eubank has never been one to shy away from bold statements, but his claim that his son would beat undefeated middleweight masochist Gennady Golovkin is a real doozy.
Of course, Chris Eubank being Chris Eubank, his claim wasn’t just that his son would simply beat the Kazakh. In an interview with the Daily Star, the former middleweight, super-middleweight and cruiserweight title-holder put it in far more definitive terms.
“I think Jr destroys him. I just do. He destroys him in my view”
The former fighter explained his opinion by stating that the hard-hitting Golovkin was “slow” and “easy to hit”. He also compared the situation to his own prior to his first fight with bitter rival Nigel Benn.
“Look at how it mirrors my situation with Nigel Benn back in 1990. Everyone was saying you ‘can’t do that’. Some can’t see it, but I can see it.”
The elder Eubank added, that he would be steering Jr in the direction of the Golovkin fight.
Eubank’s audacious claims come in the wake of the announcement that his son has signed with Matchroom Boxing. It was also confirmed that David Haye’s former trainer Adam Booth would be joining the 26-year-old fighter’s coaching staff.
The talented Eubank Jr is scheduled to debut under his new promotional umbrella on October 24th, as part of the Kell Brook vs Diego Chaves card. An opponent is yet to be announced.
