Comments Thread For: Mayweather/Marciano: Too Much Ado About 49-0

Marciano's record has been mangled, misinterpreted and misunderstood. The reality is, 49-0 represents a heavyweight milestone and nothing else.

So much has been made about Floyd Mayweather's recent victory over Andre Berto that raised his ledger to 49-0, equaling the record Rocky Marciano retired with and took to his grave. But really, how relevant was Mayweather's accomplishment?

The number has been a jinx for sure, with several champions and titleholders attempting to reach or surpass that mark, coming tantalizing close but falling a hair short at the finish line.

Thank you very much for this article. The 49-0 crap was always ****** to me considering fighters have already beaten it. And ultimately 49-0 doesn't mean nearly as much as who those 49 were.

Why would Mayweather not go for 50-0? Because he has been exposed and it would be very difficult for him to continue controlling fight conditions in order to hide his PED use such as having testing done only after the fight has been announced, dictating to all-access when to take videos, getting USADA to give him TUE's for IV use when there really is no justification, etc.

Why would Mayweather pay for his 18-0 Lineal WBC at the age of 21? Was he handicapped? Because he knew PED's would help him in the future? Surely a family of boxers and Olympic status robbed a Gold must count for something.
