He's moved up, so the time is ticking...

Ward is very good defensively but i'm not convinced he's 'great' defensively and that's probably what he would need to beat Kovalev.

I'm 60/40 in favour of Kovalev to win by KO, I don't think Ward could get the better of Kovalev on the outside even with his speed adv and when he tries to go on the inside to maul he will probably get caught with a big right.

Not really sure what to think at this point. I'm in the Bay Area and haven't heard anything regarding the progress of his next fight.......little disappointing to be honest.

I am in the bay area too. I am a way bigger GGG and Kovalev fan than Ward fan though, so I won't be rooting for him in either of those fights if they happen.

He is a nice guy and an elite fighter, but he is dull to me in and outside of the ring and I can appreciate similar to better technical boxing from other fighters (Lomachenko, Rigo, Fury, GGG, Kovalev, Ortiz, Bradley, Roman). Ward being from the bay has never been enough for me to really get behind him, sadly, I am more of a Karim Mayfield fan, even though he is a lesser fighter and a less known fighter.

I'm a fan of GGG too. Although it would have been beneficial for boxing, I'm glad they're no longer on a collision course. Though not a huge fan, I respect Kovalev and have a fight between him and Ward even at this point.

It's been hard as a Ward fan lately, but I've followed his career ever since the Olympics so I'm here to stay. Ward's personality outside of the ring is one of them main reasons I still support him. I've seen him around the bay and he comes across as a genuine person.

Besides, those of us who are tired of the stereotypical bad guy routine need someone to get behind.....

I think ward can win a decision by being the better boxer, but kovalev has a big chance of knocking ward out. fight could go either way.

Good post. Yea I agree with most of this. I like the bad guy routine but it depends on how you do it: Broner is classless, guys like Floyd, Margarito, Mayorga, I like that kind of bad guy in boxing. You don't have to be trash, just be a **** to fighters and the media and be bout that fighting life.
