Comments Thread For: Beterbiev-Barrera Heads To a Purse Bid on October 5

MONTRÉAL - A purse bid will take place October 5 at the chief office of the International Boxing Federation (IBF) in Springfield, New Jersey, for the IBF light heavyweight elimination fight between the IBF No. 2 and No. 8 contenders, respectively, Montreal's Artur Beterbiev (9-0, 9 KOs) and Cuban Sullivan Barrera (16-0, 11 KOs).

Under IBF rules, the minimum bid is $100,000 for this bout. Beterbiev will receive 75-percent of the purse bid to Barrera's 25-percent, since the two-time Russian Olympian is the highest ranked contender, in addition to him already having won an IBF eliminator to earn his No. 2 spot.

It's taking forever to find this guy an opponent, it's getting frustrating.
Since they couldn't do it this year, hopefully he fights four times next year.

He could have fought Kovalev but they said no. No reason for him not to fight Stevenson either, other than Haymon and Michel don't want that to happen. And it's not like Stevenson has been stepping up his competition either. So there are fights out there for Beterbiev, and they are damn good ones. His team simply is not interested in them. I have no pity for him.

I wouldn't be surprised if a third party from Russia won this purse bid.

But does anyone know what the travel restrictions are for Cuban defectors that live in the United States? Can they go to Russia? Why can't Barerra go to Canada?

Promoters run the sport right now. If I was GYM I'd get Beterbiev a title shot & hopefully a title sometime next year too. There is more power for GYM to have two title holders than to have his best two guys fight while only one holds a title.

As a boxing fan a lot of decisions get made that I hate, but til the sport is less steered towards business with all these chiefs trying to make the most bucks, business first decisions are gonna win out over boxing first decisions more often than not. This happens under every regime.

Oh WTF!!!!!!! GYM/Haymon just found an out against another tough fight with ME. Beiterbiev just fought in Chicago in his last fight, there's no reason especially with the PBC money being thrown around, that Beterbiev couldn't fight Barrera in the US!!!! It's not like Beterbiev is some headline draw in Canada. If GYM/Haymon force the fight in Canada knowing Barrera can't accept - that's an official duck.

Nadjib Mohammedi looks to be the next ranked guy. This ****ing bull****, just make the fight in the US.

Mohammedi is good enough for Kovalev, but ****ing bull**** for a prospect with less than 10 fights?

                    Do you have an agenda?
