but how much did wladimir actually hold peter in that fight? i saw the chris byrd interview on this site and they were saying it was ridiculous of how much wladimir was holding. if this is wladimir's style then we might have a new ruiz on our hands.
i didn't see the peter and klitschko fight.

He held less than Ruiz. Wlad wont need to hold Byrd.Originally posted by juggernautburnbut how much did wladimir actually hold peter in that fight? i saw the chris byrd interview on this site and they were saying it was ridiculous of how much wladimir was holding. if this is wladimir's style then we might have a new ruiz on our hands. -

He was holding a lot. Like pretty much whenever Peter got close. I don't think that Wlad needed to do that. Peter is a very limited fighter. Wlad could have controlled that fight from the outside with his jab. Peter knocked Wlad down with akward, clubbing punches. But I was very suprised that Wlad was not even given a warning for clinches.Originally posted by juggernautburnbut how much did wladimir actually hold peter in that fight? i saw the chris byrd interview on this site and they were saying it was ridiculous of how much wladimir was holding. if this is wladimir's style then we might have a new ruiz on our hands.Comment

he held way too much for me
Wladdy holds in a different manner than Ruiz. For starters, Wladdy is now trained by Emanuel Steward, who has been coaching his tall fighters to tie up inside ever since the mid 1980s or earlier. Steward teaches his tall outside boxers to use their jab, stick and move, use their right hand, and tie up as soon as a shorter opponents gets close enough to land a big shot. Ruiz holds right after landing a shot, usually a jab. They both bend the rules quite a bit, but they hold in a different way.Originally posted by juggernautburnbut how much did Wladimir actually hold Peter in that fight? i saw the chris byrd interview on this site and they were saying it was ridiculous of how much Wladimir was holding. if this is Wladimir's style then we might have a new ruiz on our hands.
I was very disappointed that Wladdy wasn't quickly warned for excessive holding during the Peter fight. It would have made all the difference in the world. Sam Peter wasn't fast enough to catch Wladdy that often, maybe only 7 or 8 times per round, so if Wladdy held him every time Peter trapped him on the ropes, Sam Peter had to get lucky to win. This is the type of fight in which an active referee could have made a big difference.
Will Wladdy hold much against Byrd? Not nearly as much as he did against Sam Peter. Byrd doesn't hit hard enough to scare Wladdy so he will only tie up inside a few times each round, maybe 3 or 4, instead of 7 to 10 times like against Peter.Comment
