Comments Thread For: PRBBP Sues Golden Boy Over Oquendo Promotional Rights

Golden Boy Promotions managed to catch many in the industry off-guard with news of resigning featherweight contender Jonathan Oquendo.

Among those surprised by the announcement include Puerto Rico Best Boxing Promotions, the company who believes they still have him under contract. Such news now puts in jeopardy a proposed fight between Oquendo and featherweight titlist Jesus Cuellar.

“We learned of the news through the press and were actually surprised because we have been working with Jonathan for a while,” said PRBBP’s Ivan Rivera. [Click Here To Read More]

      wtf is PRBBP

either way I think these lil small promotions are always eager to sue a bigger promotions company, they have no real interest in the fighters best interest, they want to bring them down with the ship with them.

The size of a promotional company doesn't invalidate their contract.

I think Haymon learned how to steal fighters from De La Joto. That's Canelo, Lemieux, and Oquendo. All ended up in lawsuits.

Put yourself in the shoes of a small promoter. You invest in a fighter and the second he does something of note, one of the big sharks takes him away and leaves you with nothing.

You'd want something to tide you over for the effort as well.

You act like these promotional companies (toprank,GBP) steal fighters on purpose, Their lawyers looked at the contract and deem their relationship is over with their pior promotional company and take them, They wont be taking fighters if they knew they wouldn't win in a lawsuit.

Haymon doesnt play by the rules that why he was able to steal a bunch of fighters like the shady person he is, He signs them to advisement contracts, so a fighter can have an advisement contracts and promotional contract at the same time. I bet now thought promotional companies are writing in stipulation against that now, see Haymon caught them by surprise no one in boxing really heard of or had an advisement contract etc but now they do, I bet it will be harder for haymon to poach these new fighters that are just entering the boxing world signing promotional contracts.

Sue the fighter who was too ****** to know that he already had a contract with someone else. Not GB's fault if the fighter said he was free to sign.
