Comments Thread For: Roach: I Would Like Miguel Cotto To Fight Golovkin Next!

Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach is getting ready for the most anticipated fight of the fall, when one of his star boxers, WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33KOs) of Puerto Rico, will defend his world title against Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on November 21 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

The World Boxing Council has already ordered the Cotto-Canelo winner to make a mandatory defense against the winner of next month's unification between WBA/IBO champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (33-0, 30KOs) and IBF champion David Lemieux.

      - This isnt a good sign in my opinion. They should be %100 focused on Canelo right now.

Canelo up first, then a fight with Golovkin (if it does happen) would be a hell of a way to finish out a career. I really don't understand how some boxing fans cannot be a fan of Miguel Cotto. The guy has been giving us the fights fans have been wanting his entire career. He may make some moves that rub some folks the wrong way, but it's a part of the game.

Since when would fighting for the lineal MW title at the title weight of 160 pounds be considered a 'demand?'

Hopefully Cotto steps down after Canelo if he wins.

I like Cotto but a catch weight fight at a weight massively under the middleweight limit for the lineal middleweight title?

Indefensible. But I blame the sanctioning bodies.

I don't think Cotto cares about the belt and i don't think he fights GGG if he beats Canelo.

This is bull****. All for promotion purposes. Roach is already on record saying he doesn't want the GGG fight for Cotto.
