Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney says his club wouldn't be best pleased if he was to lace up the gloves again.

Formerly a keen amateur boxer, the 29-year-old was speaking exclusively to boxing channel BoxNation ahead of his friend and fellow Liverpudlian Liam Smith's world title showdown next month against John Thompson.

The super-welterweight ace is taking on American Thompson at the Manchester Arena on October 10, with England's all-time leading goalscorer recalling his fighting days.

Rooney, Carragher and the like seem to be a bit clueless about boxing IMO. Sky Sports roll them out from time to time, and you see them on their Twitter timelines, but unless it's Pacquiao, Mayweather or a local lad, they don't seem to have much interest.

Then of course Rooney gave every casuals answer to the greatest boxer of all time question...'Tyson or Mayweather'.

Good to see some one telling the truth or at best not hating because of disliking a fighter. He is in my Vote right under Sugar Ray Robinson. The rest of them I gotta put floyd over smart outclass of boxing style is hard to beat. Look at Lara he loose with his boxing style theirs a difference between good and Great. Ali was Great at what he do but just was by no mean smart about it in the long run..but while in the ring it was Genius from the outside looking in but if you guys were Ali yall wouldn't want the punishment he indured for victories.
