Liverpool’s Stephen Smith recently told BoxingScene that he performs better when he has a challenge on his plate and something to work towards, in recent times he has been ticking over in order to keep his tools sharp should an opportunity present itself.

The 30-year-old Liverpudlian knew that a win over Italy's Devis Boschiero, 34, would lead to an IBF Super featherweight world title and he took the opportunity with both hands, flooring his opponent twice in round two and bossing the early going.

I'm happy for Smith, gets a shot at the IBF title now against the winner of Pedraza Vs Cherry.

I thought he might look a bit rusty tonight, but looked really sharp. Went to the body brilliantly.

he's still flawed though, and is still too upright, his face got marked up now imagine against a world class fighter he's not going to have a long career. And he blocks but doesnt seem to counter or throw enough straight right hands, he'll duck under hooks but not throw the counter so its just a waste of effort.
