Lineal is very vague. Mayweather was clearly the lineal champ but since he never lost no welterweight champ has any better claim than any other welterweight champ. Brook, Thurman and Bradley are recognized champions and maybe some other guy too. It's hard to keep up. Ring magazine has no special authority to declare a lineal champ. Only when one welterweight has proven himself so superior to the rest of the welterweights that almost everybody agrees he is the best can a true lineal welterweight champ be crowned. It may end up being a welterweight that does not currently hold a title belt. Right now it's a free for all. It should be interesting and fun and it may take years.

Exactly how I feel. I still think they won't for whatever reason.

        Winners fight for lineal
It's not that simple when the reigning lineal champ retires. Everybody has to agree. Some might agree that the winner of your 4 man tournament is the new lineal champ but many will not agree. Do you think Porter fans or Khan fans or Thurman fans will accept your tournament winner as the true lineal champ? I don't think so. It's easy when you beat the lineal champ like Cotto did. Very few believe Cotto is the best middleweight in the world but he is still considered the lineal middleweight champion until someone takes that title from Cotto in the ring. Whoever takes Mayweather's place as lineal welterweight champ must prove he is the best welterweight in the world the way Mayweather did.
