Comments Thread For: Arum Explains Haymon Factor in Making Pacquiao-Khan

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, who promotes Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38KOs), is confident that Amir Khan's involvement with manager/adviser Al Haymon will not be an obstacle in finalizing a fight between the two boxers.

Pacquiao and Khan (31-3, 19KOs) are former sparring partners and shared the services of trainer Freddie Roach for several years. Khan left Roach in 2012 and hired Virgil Hunter.

lol i love how all the blame is on haymon even tho he works with more promotions then top rank or golden boy. people need to start cutting thru the emotion and see it for what it is. gbp and tr are playing pr games trying to get the fans on their side. as long as haymon is allowing his fighters to enter purse bids when the others are not tells me everything i need to know.

Im not saying haymon has no blame but lets quit pretending top rank and gbp are somehow doing everything in their power to make fights with haymon. they both sued him for one and 2 haymon has actually shown to be the one willing to work with all networks and promotions. Honestly imo top rank gbp and hbo seem to be the true problem these days. they set up all their promotions and fighters contracts in a way where it makes it pretty much impossible to make fights then on top of that they dont even allow their fighters to enter purse bids.

Im sorry but i see through the gbp and top rank pr games they play. its like everyone already forgot the whole pr campaign they did about ending the cold war. How has that worked out?

Arum hates working with Haymon because Haymon bests him. Arum made a killing on MayPac and he still complained. He complained about the ticket split and lack of tickets available to to the public. Does Arum remember De La Hoya/Trinidad had 0 tickets released to the public and Arum got the lions share of tickets over Don King because Arum had the A-side fighter? Since Arum has worked in boxing he's never had to deal with anyone as educated as he, save Dibella & Schaeffer and he's done very little business with those two. Arum knows he can't get one over on Haymon when it comes to the numbers. If you know the history of Arum and how he got into boxing it'll tell you all you need to know about the way he does business. He was working for the IRS as a tax lawyer investigating fight revenues and promoters hiding money. After investigating he then represented one of the promoters and soon after that he got into the business.

Well said, I agree and probably feel even stronger about it than you. De La Hoya made all these claims that he wanted to mend things with Arum for the sake of the fans about a year ago. I think so far they have done maybe one card together (Lomachenko vs. Russell)?

Meanwhile Haymon has former SHO/HBO boxers on cable tv every few weeks

Some but you also need a "promoters license" in order to promote your own fights. Not sure how it works everywhere else but that's how it is in Vegas. Does Khan have a promoters license?

Also, Bob brought up an interesting point. Haymon works for Khan. Not the other way around. Cant Khan just agree to fight Pac and have TR promote the event without the OK from Haymon?

Depends on the language in his contract with Haymon. If its the typical Haymon contract, then no, he must get Haymons ok to even change his underwear.

But if he indeed has a different contract with different language, as Bob indicates Team Khan says they do, then he can do what he wants......

                    Like I SAID yesterday.

Fat dan said Khan is the very few fighters whose deal with Haymon is to work on a fight by fight basis. Meaning Khan can leave his management services at anytime he wants.
