Comments Thread For: Klitschko Says Poor Opponents Not All Wilder's Fault

Wladimir Klitschko wishes Deontay Wilder would face better opposition than Eric Molina and Johann Duhaupas.

Klitschko realizes, however, that Wilder isn’t solely responsible for the selection of these two inferior foes since he won the WBC heavyweight title from Bermane Stiverne in January. Klitschko likened Al Haymon securing opponents for Wilder (34-0, 33 KOs) to when his former promoter, Germany’s Klaus-Peter Kohl, picked overmatched opponents for Ukraine’s Klitschko to fight earlier in his 18-year professional career.

Well he will have to face his mandatory next so I don't see a problem with him taking a couple of home town fights to build his fan base, and learn his craft. These guys on the PBC are fighting more often now (This will be Wilders 3rd fight this year, so why not). When these guys are fighting that much you are not always going to see them in there with tough competition.

I look at this year as his introduction to the fans, and giving him time to learn on the job. Next year it's either sink or swim when he faces Povetkin.

I don't accept that excuse. Every fighter has influence over who they fight. If Wilder is unhappy with not getting better fights, he can speak up. If he doesn't speak up, then he must not have any problem with poor competition.

It's not like he's fighting poor competition that is mandatory the way Wlad has had to sometimes. Wilder is putting off a mandatory to fight disappointing competition.

I say sink. - Off topic: Teper (EBU champ who already beat Duhaupass) is fighting Helenius December 19. The WBC "world" title fight would fit nicely on the undercard

He is just saying what everybody knows. Wilder and none of these PBC fighters have any control. It's Haymon making these crap fights. He tells them where and when and who they fight. And in the process makes his fighters look like beyotches fighting these bums that Haymon picks.

I have said before when people where talking about both Klitschko brothers not fighting quality opponents that there really weren't any. Even after Vitali retired and Wlad kept going maybe one or two of those guys he fought are actually good fighters and Wlad has become a great one. The fact does remain though, that aside from Wlad there isn't another heavyweight that is dominating the rest of the division, that includes Wilder, who is being spoon fed. Wilder does have some skill and power but if he want's to beat Klitschko he needs to put on about 20lbs and start fighting some of the guys left that can actually test him. If he gets into the ring with Klitschko now he won't last six rounds. Klitschko is way too big and powerful for him. Yeah, Wilder is tall and everyone always goes ga ga over big, tall heavyweights (Michael Grant, Jameel McCline), but they never deliver and although Wilder is tall he is a string bean.
