US boxing has been flatlining for a while. Mayweather has been smoke and mirrors, he wasn't a guy who fought who we wanted when we asked for the bouts, there was a lot of manipulation there.

Beyond that, I think Pacquiao is still a bigger draw than Canelo in the US. Canelo fought on regular HBO last time out and I expect Pacquiao to be back on PPV against Crawford soon enough.

Mayweather built a successful brand, he earned the most he could and the social media & internet era was no doubt a huge intangible player.

We still have Andre Ward for a potential USA #1 P4P after that it doesn't look too good.
      Terence Crawford?

Mannnnn STFU...Pacquiao Algieri did ***** for ppv numbers...As did Pacquiao v Rios.

Alvarez v Lara did identical numbers...Pac still a bigger draw? STOP IT.

I love how people love to lay claim that Floyd was all "Smoke and Mirrors".. "oh, he didn't fight who we wanted him to fight when we wanted him to fight them"...Yet you're probably one of the people who paraded around this forum saying Pacquiao would beat Floyd.

Cliff poses a really good question. Grantland had an article suggesting Floyd is the last of the Great American prizefighters. I think they both make a good point.

I think Crawford and Spence have potential to be the best down the road. LSC could climb if he fought who he should. Other than that, I look at Canelo, Loma, Verdejo, Gonzalez, Valdez, Kovalev, Joshua, Bieterbiev, Walters and some others as the future top of the sport. Also Cruiserweight is emerging as the best division in the sport and there are no top US fighters there.

I hope Floyd shifts from promoting to working with the US amateur program where his style would have a TREMENDOUS impact if he focused on reviving amateur boxing in the US.

You now have to wonder how much of his achievements were a product of PED use after getting busted with a PED masking agent. It's hilarious the new movie The Program outlining how Lance Armstrong beat the drug tests and in the movie trailer released yesterday shows him running to use the exact same illegal IV usage Floyd took. Hell the screen shot of the trailer is a pic of the clear IV bag.

You have to wonder why at age 40 he lost no speed or endurance and in the late rounds against younger fighters he always had more energy then them.

You're comparing 1 tuneup bout and a stay busy bout to that of a farewell bout for arguably the best boxer of our generation. Someone who considers himself the face of boxing and Greatest of all time. When you compare the numbers YES its embarrassing.

Pacquiao-Algieri & Rios took place in China and still did 350k.

Canelo is fighting on regular HBO while in the US against an American opponent in Kirkland.

I would suggest that you go back and review what quote I replied to. Nothing in my post was pertaining to Floyd's payperview numbers...I was clearly discussing his argument about Pacquiao being the next biggest draw in boxing vs Canelo.

                  Sheesh..>Take your blinders off bro.

And IMO....when Floyd has fought all of the best opposition in the sport and at his weight class...seriously, what is left to prove? What has Amir Khan done to deserve a shot at Mayweather? What has Keith Thurman done to deserve a shot at Mayweather? And yes, what has Andre Berto done to deserve a shot at Mayweather? In the grand scheme of things, nobody was truly worthy of a fight against Mayweather and the critics would complain regardless of who he fought. "OHHH he needs to fight GGG"....Really???

And your point is???Whether in China or in America, the promotional aspect of it through commericals was all the same. You're acting like since they had the fight in China, nobody could view it. cmon.

I never understood why ppl use the excuse of taking place in China for the low numbers for those ppvs, it still started the standard time a ppv boxing match starts in United States,
