I'll hold it against Tom, as for Golovkin turning it down it depends on the date. K2/GB started negotiating for Golovkin/Lemieux the week after Lemieux/N'Dam which was the same day as Ward/Smith.

If the Ward offer came after the Murray fight and before Lemieux/N'Dam, then yeah because Golovkin was free and without a fight. I wouldn't expect them to accept 50/50, but atleast counter offer and not out right reject.

Well sadly they are the "stars" in a boxing world currently dominated by Haymon. They will be "stars" until Haymon stops putting them on TV. There is money in fighting those guys (assuming Haymon doesn't put them in a bubble).


As for Ward, he just needs to fight more to make himself relevant. GGG's team used his name when he was more relevant, but since his layoff, he hasn't sparked any excitement from the public.

Like everyone else is saying, Ward needs to shut-up and move up. Start fighting Light Heavyweights until the public is clamoring for you to challenge Kovalev. He does come across as very entitled, whereas GGG does not because he is fighting four time a year. He's hustling to get fans while Ward sits back and expects them.

That's the thing-the GGG/Lemeuix "negotiations" are to prevent a Ward fight, sort of like how Canelo/Kirkland was made just to remove the option of June in MSG for Cotto/Canelo.

Respectfully, GGG wasn't concerned/concentrating on unifying the divisions when there were other offers at 168. SO falling back on this as his true goal doesn't seem plausible.

It seems most likely that Team GGG and HBO want to keep GGG undefeated because an undefeated GGG v Canelo would IMO be a huge fight. If GGG lost to Ward before that then the fight would lose a lot of luster.

They've said all year their goal was a) unification and b) Canelo/Cotto WBC belt so I'm not sure why Ward or anyone else is trippin. When Gennady couldn't secure a big name for the life of him they offered to fight Ward and Ward wasn't interested. Now that Ward can't find a decent fight himself he's publicly going after Golovkin but as we know Golovkin has a unification lined up and is mandatory to the WBC assuming he beats Lemieux, so anything north of 160 is going to have to wait until Golovkin at least attempts to accomplish his goals at middleweight.

But they were trying to fight Froch and Chavez....?
