The WBC has to maintain credibility. The only reason they are fighting for the belt is because GGG AGREED to step aside with the agreement Gennady gets the winner or the belt. This could be easily upheld in court.

i still dont get why ggg fans wouldnt want to see this and yes we all want to see ward kovalev but why cant we have both? i just dont honestly get it. ward asked for so long just not to talk about him if u dont want the fight thats all he asked but abel just kept bringing him up none stop.

Also ggg been trying to get a mayweather fight for years im sorry i love watching ggg fight but im so tired of this new formula pretend everyone is scared then if anyone is favored to win pretend the fight makes no sense.

Speaking for myself, I do want the Golovkin/Ward. I believe Golovkin wins an ugly fight, maybe even stops Ward. Judging alone gave Froch an MD loss to Ward and I thought that was totally one-sided. I expect Golovkin to be far more competive given his better accuracy and balance. Golovkin routinely practices grappling techniques, routinely spars with larger & stronger fighters, his regular work with Sullivan Barrera avoiding a tough style, his gold medal defeat to Gaydarbekov was similar to how you'd expect Ward to fight Golovkin - lots of hit & hold from a bigger man going for a points victory. Golovkin strikes me as someone who learns from his experiences and adapts thus the wrestling training as a pro. A win over Ward instantly validates Golovkin's hype.

Golovkin is at the point where he can finally seal up the MW division by getting all the belts and maybe having his mega fight with Alvarez next year - same thing Hopkins and Hagler both waited for in Trinidad & Hearns.

Ward announced in March he was having tune-ups, fought Smith same night Lemieux/N'Dam, K2 made it clear Lemieux was their top priority, and Ward puts up an offer at the time that fight was either done or basically done. And 50/50 is BS. Even if Golovkin didn't have the Lemieux, Lee, Alvarez fights on the immediate horizon, even if Ward was selling tickets and getting the same kind of tv numbers as Golovkin - Golovkin is the guy who has to move up and concede a weight advantage. All things being equal (which they're not), common sense should tell you the guy moving up should get compensated more. If Ward's really trying to make this fight happen I would expect him to make an offer that would be hard for Golovkin to refuse.

Obviously he would like both. When you collect all the belts and are the only name in the division, it's tough for people to ignore you.

I don't require luck, I don't have a dog in the fight. But to think these guys can turn down a mandatory in GGG, drop the belt and fight some lesser opponent no one wants to see and expect to not lose respect is naive.

If that's true, then that's a pretty shameless move by Ward. Send K2 an offer right after they announce another fight just so you can say they turned you down. Well like Ward said, he's got the email, so he can prove if Tom's lying.

I bet you though we never see that email and that this was yet just more Andre Ward double talk like the Chavez Jr/Froch situation or saying he'd take a fight at LHW and then turning down Stevenson, or saying Bute needs to earn it but signing to fight Pavlik.

They don't want it, can't blame them. Ward would most likely beat him and end his undefeated record. They will have to stay at 160 and hope Canelo or Cotto gives them an opportunity to get a big fight. There is no other big fight out there for him.
