I think Ward got into one of those bubbles where people tell you what you wanna hear all day after the Super Six success. There has been 1 good move & many bad moves since then that has lowered his value, but because he's in this bubble he's the last one to realize it.
He came into the Super Six tournament as a 20-0 25 year old prospect in 2009. Leaves it as a 25-0 27 year old undisputed #1 guy in his division in 2011. Then he doesn't fight for 9 months, then he doesn't fight for 14 months & finally he doesn't fight for 19 months. I think the Dawson fight in 2012 was a good move even if he gets **** for not bending on the weight, but in the 3 years since that fight he's done f#ck all & thats greatly hurt his momentum, but he don't know I don't think cuz of that yesman bubble he's in.

Once that gets settled, it's simply a matter of how RocNation finances getting Ward onto the PPV; front the cost for Ward, or don't front the cost but get him a piece of the upside.
Cotto-Alvarez
Ward-TBA
Miura-Vargas
-fourth fight
You pull the payouts to Canelo, Cotto and Ward, and you probably finance the rest of the bill with $1m (completely ignore the MGM site fee to host the fight at Mandalay Bay, as that was already split between Cotto and Alvarez).
Price the PPV $60sd/$70hd; fight clears 800k PPV buys and, after all the various payouts to other parties, you've got $25m to divvy up.
$1.75m off of the $25m in proceeds comes out to about 7% (if the fight proves to be as big as Oscar seems to believe it to be, that number could be down at 5%).
$2m up front or 5% off of the proceeds on the fight isn't that bad of a choice.
Originally posted by BrushMyHair! View PostThats fine. Just as long as the Headliners are getting the bulk of the split. Yuck. It ****** having to say that Canelo and Cotto should get paid more than Ward. Though they deserve it more than Ward, Ward is clearly light years better than both fighters.
Garcia-Lucas and Cotto-Canelo are both big name match ups that people want to see and relatively evenly matched.
Nobody wants to see ward fight another cab driver and ward has no fans outside his hometown. If he was fighting a big name, then I could see him getting ppv portion but hes not. flat rate or go home.
