I will always take the "will fight again" option for a great fighter who won their last fight who's under 40 & I'll almost always take that same option for anyone under 45 these days with how long guys have been sticking around & coming back.

Personally I hope Mayweather actually retires. As a Grand Rapids, Michigan born guy who's followed & seen Mayweather rise from the Michigan Golden Gloves to Olympian to World Champion to Hall of Famer in a few years I love the idea of Mayweather having a mythical type allure in the boxing world like Rocky Marciano does with this undefeated record thing.

He wants to be a free agent for his next big fight. Maybe the pac fight he saw something in the money split/fees he still didnt like.

Gave showtime the shaft with the berto fight to close out his 6 fight contract.

Now he will get an even better deal on his next fight should he fight on.

khan would sell really well, even though khan hasnt done chit to deserve the fight.

think this too. hes a guy who always cares about money so why would he want to fight a guy that wont sell for his final payday.... not unless you just want to get out of the contract and have better terms for a guy that would sell well.

Its hard to believe he wont giving how the landscape right in boxing is right now he can fight another fight and make another easy 30+ million. However I think he will come back in 2017 against the Next breakout fighter and defeat him cause looking at the 147 landscape the next one is coming out the porter, berto, thurman, rios, bradley, broner, garcia,he rrera bunch all of which he can beat. But the best one would be Garcia if he can stay undefeated till then, I can honestly see Garcia start calling mayweather next year and mayweather finally comes back and fights him in september of 2017. They will be able to sale the fight big time.

How did Mayweather give Showtime the shaft when he delivered the six fights promised (Guerrero, Alvarez, Maidana, MaidanaII, half of Pacquiao, Berto) and likely delivered north of 7.5m PPV buys once everything is counted (while also building CBS/Showtime into a parallel position to HBO's boxing division).

Floyd likely has $400m in cash/cash alternative once all the revenues get paid out; there's no reason for him to come back.

Floyd "Money" Mayweather, at all of 38 years old, will settle into his role as "face" of Mayweather Promotions (Leonard Ellerbe is still likely to be the man handling the day-to-day operations/press, but Floyd will market the company), continue to push his TMT brand (Still early, and the scale is totally different, but wouldn't be shocked to see it continue to grow, a la Jordan brand), and continue pushing his young fighters (young guys already signed to his banner, the fighters he'll get to work with through the Haymon connection, and the possibility that one of the young kids in his gym [nice crew of 4-5 of them who are near the same age] may hit the 2020 Olympic games and medal).

You add the philanthropic work that he's likely to do through his foundation, and there's plenty to keep him busy outside of boxing.
