Comments Thread For: SHO Exec on Khan, Thurman, Brook Not Getting Floyd Jr.

Showtime Sports top executive Stephen Espinoza explained the situation why Andre Berto was ultimately selected as the pay-per-view opponent for Saturday's card at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, where the former two-time champion will challenge the pound-for-pound king, Floyd Mayweather Jr., for the WBC/WBA welterweight world titles.

So Kell Brook should know by now fighting Jojo Dan and Gavin in England cost him the fight. Had he fought some good names after the Porter fight he would be the one facing Mayweather. Problem is he knows in his heart he can't beat top name fighters and he would have been knocked out which is why he keeps fighting bums. The way he got bashed by Carson Jones just shows he won't last if he fought 3 good fighters in a row.

          Bradley would've been nice.

I actually thought May-Pac would pave the way for Haymon and Arum to do business in the future but..

Wasn't aware that Thurman has a hand injury. Has this ever been mentioned before? Hope he's back soon.

And what's this about Garcia just recently having a "big fight" and not being back for a while? He fought friggen Paulie Malignaggi, in the middle of the year....He needs to get his ars back in the ring this year against a credible opponent. No more Paulie, Devon, Guerrero type guys, they've been recycled enough. Either a top 10 WW not named Diego Chaves or go find a new hobby.

As for Floyd's options, Brook would have been the most logical. Seems like even Espinoza agrees that there wasn't much reason for it to not happen, as his excuse doesn't make much sense. Berto and Brook are probably equally known to people outside of boxing in the US. And if they aren't, there's probably no more than 1000 more people who know Berto. Not enough to make a difference.

Espinoza is such an embarrassment. A true definition of the word puppet. He only has a job because May-Pac got made. He's Haymon's inside guy at Showtime thanks to Slick Rick Schaefer.
