Larry Merchant WON'T be watching Floyd Mayweather fight Andre Berto on Saturday night ... because the legendary boxing commentator says that any Mayweather fight that doesn't involve a higher level of opponent of middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin is a total waste of time.

Really ridiculous proposition. Mayweather has no business fighting a 160 lb. guy and is even pushing it when he fights at 154 lbs. I guess people really do just want to see this guy loose, to the extent that they ask for non-sense type fights.

Weird how Floyd is held to such a high standard, that he remains the only welter who "fans" want to see fight the hardest hitting 160lber. Nobody is saying that Khan, Porter, Maidana, Rios, Bradley, Pacquiao or Thurman is ducking Golovkin. Why? Because they're welterweights. But Floyd haters (ie Merchant's old racist ass) will claim that Floyd isn't an all time great if he doesn't beat a guy that current middleweights don't wanna fight.

That's what happens when Floyd easily beat the guy hyped as "the one" to beat him. The media and casuals alike had to move up TWO weight classes to find the guy that will beat Mayweather.

Floyd fans were almost wanted Floyd to have a bravery award for fight Pac, when JMM already did it 4 times. So in reality the standards for Floyd are set much lower than his peers. Floyd does this by starving his fans of fight, so eventually they are just happy if Floyd gives you a fight.

People want FLoyd to fight GGG as they want him to reach his latent potential and take a proper challenge and risk. Is fighting someone your underdog against too big an ask?

If may fights Triple G at a catchweight the excuse will be that Golovkin was drained. Of course, the people also will complain that Mayweather ran around the ring and tried to pot-shot to a victory. That match will never happen.

There many better opponents than Berto as Thurman, Brook, Lara, and even Khan. What happened to Jose Napoles when he moved up to MW and fought Monzon? Got knocked out, do you think Mayweather would take such risk? If he wanted a sixth divisional title he would have fought Sergio before Cotto took him. Sergio had a bum knee and had hand problems and was over the hill, yet Mayweather didn't face him.
