Comments Thread For: Heiland Still in WBC Top Spot, Wants Golovkin or Cotto

One would have thought that after his knockout win over Matthew Macklin last year, Jorge Sebastian Heiland would have pushed on, if not to a world title fight then at least to another bout against a top contender. Instead the Argentine has been on the sidelines, patiently awaiting his chance after seeing potential opportunities against the big guns of the middleweight division fall at the final hurdle.

"Yes, it's been almost a year out of the ring but I'm always training, always ready to fight, even tomorrow if it were necessary," Heiland told BoxingScene.com.

I really hope the WBC makes this guy fight another top contender before they try to force him as a mandatory. I think Murata, Magomedov, Soro or Korobov would beat him decisively.

Golovkin vs Heiland, for the vacant WBC middleweight championship, Feb 2016 (Cotto-Alvarez winner will be elevated to WBC 160 champion emeritus, before then contesting their rematch for some form of the WBC 154 title).

      have fun selling that one.

They're still taking 8 round developmental fights. Murata & Mago are doing 10 rounders vs marginally ranked fighters.

I'm not even sold on the probable Golovkin/Johnson fight. Hell Golovkin/Lee will be one-sided, but atleast it'll be a big event in the UK. I know South Korea wants to put on an event with Golovkin and that he could do a stadium show in Kazakhstan this summer, those might be ok venues for weaker opponents like Johnson & Heiland.

If I was him I would stay active and pursue other opportunities, he won't be getting a fight for the WBC title until late 2016 if not 2017 lol.

Yes, because most mandatories in boxing fight a series of big fights to gain #1 ranking, right? In truth, we're lucky if a #1 ranked fighter in a division fights anyone in the top 10, let alone a series of good fighters. Most build up BS undefeated records against nobodies and have good promoters. At least Heiland beat the ****e out of Macklin.

That's true in a lot of cases nowadays but Macklin was on his way to Bum City when Heiland fought him. I'm not saying he's not a decent fighter but Macklin is no longer world class (if he ever was) and he's the best opponent Heiland has beaten. I have serious doubts about his ability to win a world title.
Heiland sounds like he wants to jump into a title fight with the likes of Golovkin and Cotto because he finds himself ranked #1 by one commission after beating a washed up Matthew Macklin but until he proves his worth against another opponent in the top 20, he may not get the match up he's looking for.
