Walk him Down or Cut off the Ring?

From what I have read, "walking a men down" translates to cutting the ring off. I understand language changes quickly, but what was wrong with cutting off the ring? Walking a man down sounds like going straight at your opponent with no head movement or defense which sounds like a ****** move. Cutting the ring off sounds strategic.

Of course, these are just my opinions, but having watched the sport for decades, I do wonder why the change came about. I thought cutting off the ring was fine.

Cutting off the ring generally applies when your opponent fights of the backfoot and is reluctant to stand/trade : Walking a man down usually is when you steal momentum and ride it as far as you can.

Cutting the ring is the act of tryin to corner your opponent who is using a lot of footwork. Walking someone down refers to actually having the person start backing up form you cuz usually of tiredness or pain or something. Cutting the ring off someone, that person will still try to keep moving away from you, but usually if you do it right, after a few round he gets tired and you can start walking him down.

Oh, okay. I see now. Walking him down turns the tide on him who would not be backpedaling to begin with. Makes sense to me now. Thanks for clearing that up. Read a few others who said it was basically cutting off the ring and I wondered 'Don't we already have a term for that?' Haha. Big help, guys! Thanks.
