    Great article, thanks!

The most succinct passage for me:

It's not an accident Donald Trump names everything after himself. It betrays a central fact about the fundamental emptiness of the legacy that Trump will leave behind. Who else would ever name anything after him? Imagine how you'd feel about a society that did. What exactly has Trump achieved or owned that stands a chance of inspiring future generations to attach his name to anything? This is because outside of Trump's net financial worth, his ultimate value inspires nothing.

It's no different for fighters. The value of a boxer's legacy simply isn't determined by what he has; the greats are remembered for what they give of themselves.

This is the central difference between Pacquiao and Mayweather. No matter how much Mayweather out-earns Pacquiao financially, he can never buy his way out of the fact (that) no great champion in history has been more willing to stink out a fight. Mayweather's legacy will be that he was one of the most exciting fighters in the history of boxing until he stepped into the ring. And none of Pacquiao's well-documented personal failings can erase how much of his life he risked and ultimately left behind inside the ropes.
Floyd may not be universally regarded as TBE but he has positioned himself with one HUGE advantage over Manny: Floyd chooses when to retire because he doesn't have leeches like Don King and Bob Arum calling the shots.

Spot on! Floyd took less risks, less punishment, and made more money than all the ATG's. Many people hate him for this, but deep inside they know he was the smartest of them all. What's most amazing is how he got so many haters to watch his fight in the first place. He took the Ali blueprint, and the Pernell Whitaker style, and created a monster!

Probably his early 40s anyway, he enjoys it. Arum keeps talking of retirement but Pacquiao never sounds like he has any intention of retiring.

He's still a top 5 P4P fighter right now. There's still easy money to be made for him while being better than most.

As a huge supporter of Pac since his NO Fear trunks and bleach blonde hair days, I have to say hang them up. Your focus on boxing is clearly done and now it's seems it's more about the money vs the legacy.

The only fight we wanted to see you in is over and that stinker of a performance was a let down on top of the excuse. Hang them up

i know fmj outboxed him but that was far from punishment, Floyds just not that kinda fighter. But he did get some good shots in tho.

Actually Pacquiao hasn't been hit with a serious punch in 3 years since Marquez put him to sleep. No wear and tear. He's not the force he was in 2009 but he's still great. Think about this, other that the huge KO he walked into, (dumb move) who completely dominated him? In fact who has ever dominated him?

I get the impression Arum is looking to cash out on Pacquiao. He probably recognising that the ending is nigh and it wouldn't surprise me if his frustration, at Pacquiao going off script, is growing.

Arum gets paid, acted like he is PAC's big poppa, but it is all about money.
