He's defended his title against opponents like Pianeta, Wach, Austin, Leapai, shot CW Mormeck, shot late replacement Rahman etc. I'd say 40something shot Briggs fits right into that group.

I don't blame wlad, the HW scene is crap right now so people like Briggs can still turn up for a payday.

Haye, Thompson, Pulev, Povetkin, Jennings, Fury

I was critical of Wlad's opposition too, but he has stepped it up (mandated, but still).

tbh same here, fighting the best available contender, then a short, fun tune up and then unifying all available belts.

I doubt the Wilder fight happens so soon, I'd like a run of Fury, Briggs, Glazkov, Stiverne (if he still wants to box and is in shape). This should lead to the end of 2016, with Wilder having defended his title against more viable opponents, meaning a huge 2017 meeting. Then of course retirement.

Hopefully Fury beats Wlad before then though lol

Wlad has all but cleared out the division, all that's left is Fury, the wbc champ, whoever that will be next year and....maybe someone like Glazkov or Stiverne. With the likes of AJ and Hughi and so on, Wlad is going to be fighting guys 2 or 3 generations removed from himself. It's quite a run. A mediocre to good run but quite a run none the less.

when you have as many defenses as wlad youre bound to have a few cupcakes in there just as holmes and louis had. anyway,,,,most of them were mandatories anyway

everyone on that list would beat briggs and they were "in a pinch" opponents when the division was cleaned out

he has a pretty full plate right now trying to squeeze fury, wilder, etc in before his imminent retirement

fighting briggs would be a huge waste, maybe if its his last farewell fight it would be ok but if he doesn't consider his career over yet why would he drop to that level. briggs is WAY past it. He was already in decline when Vitali destroyed him and now he's just fighting fat bouncers for food money.

How do people get excited about this? Briggs last several fights have been nothing more than staged events/dives. He's fighting tonight and it's not even being televised because it doesn't warrant being televised...nor would Klitschko vs Briggs.

He should tell him to fight on the Fury undercard against a top 10 fighter, if he wins then fight him, unless there is a better opponent ready.
