End the combo with a jab?

    You can use it to help get yourself out of range but it's as important as you're stating and it can be very awkward, which is why it's not frequently done. Reason being, the hooks and straight rights thrown in counters can work off each other's momentum, making them stronger than if they were thrown on their own. The jab doesn't play into that push-pull shift and it doesn't feel natural to throw one at the end of a combo. But, as I said, it can help distract your opponent while you back away after throwing a combo and that's actually something I like to do when the opportunity presents itself.
