Comments Thread For: Floyd Mayweather Jr. Worried About Health, Not Losing

More than anything, Floyd Mayweather Jr. wants to retire after facing Andre Berto because he is concerned about his long-term health.

With his uncle/trainer, former 140-pound champion Roger Mayweather, experiencing serious health issues that stem from a 72-bout boxing career that spanned 18 years, Mayweather emphasized on a conference call Wednesday that he wants to walk away from boxing with his health and his immense wealth intact. The younger Mayweather’s defensive style has helped keep him out of wars in the ring, but he, too, has been a professional fighter for 18-plus years.

How could anyone disagree .....then unfortunately you get fighters like Khan who talk like they've had three thousand fights.

GGG has yet to beat a reigning champ or titlist @ 160

He needs to do that one time....he is damn near 40 with a prospects resume

Khan, ward, others get dissed but their resume is in a different dimension compared to GGG

Floyds detractors don't won't him to leave because he has done everything there is to do in boxing except lose.

They want to be compensated for those ppv's they paid for wishing for an loss.

He is pushing 40 and is way out of his prime time to hang em up.

Listen, I'm not a Floyd fan. And in fact, I have always been harsh with criticism of him. But truth be told, he's leaving the sport the way EVERY FIGHTER SHOULD and that's with his wealth and health in tact and that I have to respect.

Boxing doesn't need anymore Meldric Taylor's, Evander Holyfield's or Even Mike Tyson's fighting passed their prime because of money woes.

On this same note I can't wait for Floyd to leave because he started this diva epidemic and though many may disagree this is helping kill this sport.

P.s I feel the hate coming to me now after this post.

I agree wth most of this. But this diva thing started with dlh IMO. He became the richest non heavyweight and dominated every negotiation in his career. It's just that when Floyd did it, people spoke up against him despite the fact he took one of the most lopsided deals in boxing history to dlh to put himself in this position. What I will say is Floyd took it to NEW levels in terms of control, but he definitely didn't start it.
