Sources out of Mexico have advised BoxingScene.com that Lee Selby's first defense of the IBF featherweight world title, against former two-division world champion Fernando Montiel (54-4-2, 39KOs) of Mexico, will take place on October 14th as part of special Wednesday edition of Premier Boxing Champions on ESPN.

Not a bad fight tbh, Montiel's been on a helluva roll since fighting in the higher weights. The Donaire KO is way behind him.

This will be a greaaaaat fight.

Montiel is small for this weightclass but has a special power in 126 pounds.

His left hook is very dangerous.

I see it like you do. Montiel is a 37 year old, 5'4", blown up bantam. Selby doesn't have much pop, so Montiel will probably lose by decision.

Senior citizen? Why would PBC give Montiel any real money? Everybody doesn't get big, grow into a heavyweight, but everybody is small at one time. Therefore competition in the smaller weights stays fresh and full, while good heavyweights are hard to find. A 34 year old heavyweight is in his prime, a 34 year old bantamweight is an old man. Montiel is just getting fed to the lions and nobody outside of Mexico believes he should be ranked in the top ten.
