If you fight 2 times a year then never.

Those sort of fights are supposed to be to tune up for big fights.

If your next fight is 6 mths away then tune up fights are pointless.

Berto isn't a tune up fight its a straight duck of Amir Khan

And how often should they be seeking to fight the best possible opposition?

Is Kell Brook entitled to fight a guy that isn't a top 10 fighter and then a guy who has won one of his last 4 fights as long as he gets the Khan fight in the summer?

Is Floyd Mayweather entitled to take a safe fight because he fought Manny Pacquiao?

I'd like to see some opinions on this.

there's no problem with taking tune ups but the problem is when fighters want these tune ups to be main events and they want to earn millions for them. unfortunately guys like haymon and others have been very successful in bringing these tune up matches to prime time. if a fighter really wanted to stay sharp he could jump on any card since there are tons every weekend but its just an excuse to earn easy money.

All of them are entitled to take a safe fight. Just don't expect people to line up for these fights.
