  • Comments Thread For: Adrien Broner Keeps Promise With Media Vow of Silence

By Jake Donovan - Everyone thought they caught Adrien Broner in a lie. Just days after swearing off interviews and press conferences until after his October 3 title fight showdown with Khabib Allakhverdiev, it was announced that a kickoff presser was in play for Tuesday at the hosting U.S. Bank Arena in Broner's hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Such a session is pointless if it doesn't include the star of the show. Nobody from Allakhverdiev's team would be on hand—Cincinnati is a long way off from Russia, after all—nor would there be sufficient representation from hosting network Showtime, currently in the stretch run of promoting the September 12 Pay-Per-View show topped by Floyd Mayweather's showdown with Andre Berto.

That left Broner to do all of the heavy lifting, which meant breaking his self-imposed code of silence.

Or not—at least, save for one word that couldn’t be repeated by his assistant for historical reasons.

Roughly a year after creating a hostile environment during fight week for his eventual 12-round win over Emmanuel Taylor last September, Broner (30-2, 22KOs) literally strolled into the very same venue ahead of Tuesday's press conference. It was also the same venue that saw his very first title win, when he knocked out Vicente Rodriguez in the 3rd round of their Nov. ’11 vacant super featherweight title fight. If only his vow of silence wasn't just limited to the media.

Used to root for him. Sort of hoped he'd be the next big thing to be around after Mayweather left. He clearly hasn't grasped the paradigm of boxer/sports writer yet. You've got to get those W's if you want to run your mouth like that. Otherwise the Maidana's and the Porter's have those **** eatin' grins on their faces after they hand you that booty. Maybe they should've just Deontay Wilder'd him and put him on easy street until he's in the mid 30 fight range, but he opted to fight the tough guys, so that's admirable. But I think back to what Roger Mayweather said 2 years ago when he worked AB out a little bit--"He was bigger than I thought he'd be, but nothing special."

If this idiot can get it together and focus in just boxing I'll be excited for the resurgence of his career. If he keeps up with the rapper/boxer act than please someone shoot me in my sleep and end this gong show.

I like broner on clown on him from time to time cause why not he opens himself up to it and at times he can be a trashy person but at times hes seem like a cool person, no one is just one thing I know that and acceptable that with him.

However only reason I know who he is and actually care enough to write this is cause of boxing and that first and foremost and lately he hasnt shown an glimispe of being a great fighter. He shows that if he stronger and faster then you then he has no problem trying to beat you up but its in the fights that he is not is when hes true colors as a figther comes out and Whatever dog/fire he had in him seems Madiana beat it out of him.

does anyone even remember his last fight? it was a disgrace. he was holding nonstop and should have been dq'd. obviously he was copying floyd and thought everyone would call him a great slick boxer for doing it but at least floyd throws punches between holding and broner wasn't even doing that. why would anyone want to watch his next fight?

What a ridiculous article. I hope you corporate whores are getting fat checks from Uncle Al to be trying to hype this guy still. At this point people dont care if he wins or loses. Weve seen him beat down by MM then embarrassed in his home town. That Punk is finished.
