A win over Devon doesn't mean very much anymore and he's already proven to have a difficult style for Maidana. Hard to see the upside here for Maidana, who is now used to being paid millions.
Marcos maidana vs Devon Alexander 2

Maidana would easily beat Devon every single round and finally TKO him in the 8th because the referee steps in. Honestly, if Alexander had a tough fight with the likes of Karass who had already been TKO'd by both Maidana and Thurman in rounds 8 and 9 respectively, I don't see Devon posing much of a threat. He has seemed to slow down a lot and hasn't looked the same. Added with the fact that Maidana had no trainer for the Alexander fight, didn't train, was out of shape, and he was contemplating retirement, I don't see how the new Maidana doesn't handle him quite easily. To the "styles make fights" people, you're bugging if you think Maidana has the same style he had back in the day. Go watch Kotelnik vs Maidana (Maidana won that fight) and watch his attack. Maidana would punch squared up without as much power on his shots, mainly looked like arm punches even though they were hard they were really from a squared up position. He also had absolutely no defense. Look at him now where he hardly ever squares up, he actually has footwork coming forward, he has a defense while coming forward (a forgotten art in boxing it seems), various feints, maximizes the utility of his jab, good head-movement, and way better stamina. Devon doesn't go past 8 rounds.Comment
