Can Abner Mares still become a Mexican boxing great?

Mares turns 30 on November 28th and hasn't had a big win since May 2013. Do you think Mares can still become a Mexican great? What does he have to do? Who does he have to beat?

    Mares' resume: Yonnhy Perez MD12 D, Vic Darchinyan SD12 W, Joseph Agbeko I MD12 W, Joseph Agbeko UD12 W, Eric Morel UD12 W, Anselmo Moreno UD12 W, Daniel Ponce De Leon TKO9 W, Jhonny Gonzalez KO1 L, Leo Santa Cruz MD12 L

Here's Haymon fighters/fighters that have worked with Haymon that Mares could fight:

At 126: Leo Santa Cruz rematch, Gary Russell Jr., Jesus Cuellar, Jorge Lara

At 122: Carl Frampton, Julio Ceja, Hugo Ruiz, Alejandro Gonzalez Jr., Moises Flores

The winner of Jorge Lara vs. Jesus Rojas, which goes down next Tuesday on FS1 would be a good fight for Mares IMO. Preferably Lara. Mexican, undefeated, and at 5'6" he's not as tall or lanky as Jhonny Gonzalez and Leo Santa Cruz.

My sentiment exactly.. he didn't have enough power in his fight with LSC.

i don't think so. not even close. he would have to beat rigo, lomachenko, walters, and frampton to be considered great. i doubt he does any of this at all.

I think Russell KO's him. He could fight Cuellar while LSC fights Selby. If he goes back to 122 they have to make Mares/Frampton.

LOL at a 3 division champion not being great.

Mares has beat legit opposition in route to getting his championships.

Mares is the best Mexican champion resume wise from the new Mexican generation.

#45 arguably lost against Lara and Trout and I'm pretty sure clowns think #45 is the best Mexican champion of the new generation.
