Comments Thread For: Ryabinsky On Russian Crisis, Boxing Biz, Cruiserweights

The stagnation of the global economy continues to be felt in all business aspects.

The crisis in Russia is present, but it manifests itself in its own—almost invisible—world. Moscow is still Moscow; even in tough times, it remains loud, vibrant and rich.

We talked about this as well as a number of topics with Andrey Ryabinsky, a head of Russian promotional giant “World of Boxing.”

In addition to his role as Russia’s leading promoter, Ryabinsky is a well-rounded businessman with his hand in several matters. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of an Investment and Civil Development Group of Companies “MIC” and is also the Vice-President of the Professional Boxing Federation of Russia.

Given his wealth of experience and knowledge, we discussed with the Russian mogul the present-day business conditions in Russia, and the non-stop development of large projects and its management, and how it relates to his daily dealings in the boxing world.

Also of interest is his take on the cruiserweight divisions and unification bouts, as he boasts most of the top fighters in the weight class. [Click Here To Read More]

Very good interview Alexey, I enjoyed reading it. Ryabinsky sounds very controlling but on the other hand knows exactly what he wants. Amazing that he spends maybe 10 hours or more on sports every week as well as run all those businesses. Not good that he is seemingly against unification fights.

      Nice interview.

Not a huge fan of him hyping all the belts & seemingly throwing the IBO title out there as a more legit title. In another ten years there might be 10 titles people hype as legit "world" titles. And with the Super & Regular & Interim titles already around I think we are probably up to 7 or 8 in some divisions at particular times.

He's a cat with lotsa money so he could do a lot of good & change things for the better if he wanted to, but he seems like he's a small thinker in his boxing promotion strategy with a big bank account mostly. Seems like his biggest goal is to get one champion of the 5 titles he hypes in all 17 divisions & doesn't matter if thats the real champion or just some guy with a lowly IBO belt.

Lowly IBO title.. It has more legitimacy than the WBA, WBO, WBC and IBF belts. I understand from a business point of view.. but **** off man. Unification is exactly what boxing needs.

Do you work for the IBO or something? All the titles have been ****d & bastardized at this point. Quit fooling yourself.

Boxing doesn't need unification, boxing needs one world title not 5 or 7 or whatever we got these days. If you think boxing will ever be able to unify 5+ titles in every division with all the regimes in boxing you are nuts or naive.
